Back in June 2012 OMV initially entrusted EDL Anlagenbau Gesellschaft mbH in Leipzig, member of the Vienna-based Pörner Group with the Extended Basic Engineering (EBE) including permitting for the revamp of the butadiene plant at Schwechat.

It is the objective of the revamp to increase the capacity of the butadiene plant.

Thanks to the personal commitment of all parties involved and the excellent cooperation with the OMV team the first partial project could be completed successfully. It was the reason why OMV awarded the follow-up contract to EDL/Pörner in March 2013 to act as EPCM contractor for the entire project implementation phase.

The scope includes the detail engineering, procurement, local construction supervision and commissioning support.

Wolfgang Kursch, Managing Director of EDL, stated in this connection: "We are delighted to have been chosen for a new challenging revamp project for OMV at Schwechat. It is another sign of confidence and acknowledges us being a reliable engineering partner."

When it came to awarding the contract our good references at Schwechat, such as the RD4 revamp in 2010, where the inter-site cooperation between EDL Leipzig and Pörner Vienna has proved its worth, played an important role.

The plant is due to be commissioned in 2014.
