In early 2007 the Pörner branch office in Budapest was awarded an engineering contract for a biogas plant by Magyar Cukor, the biggest sugar producer in Hungary. Magyar Cukor is a subsidiary of the Austrian AGRANA Group. The total investment sum of this biogas project amounts to EUR 6.2 million.

Following the trend towards renewable energy, the new plant will produce 100,000 m³ STP/d biogas by fermentation from 800 t residual substances that remain after sugar beet processing. The process was developed by AGRANA and will be implemented in Kaposvar/Hungary for the first time. The objective is to replace expensive natural gas and to lower energy cost for sugar beet processing.

In a very transparent cooperation with the client, Pörner Budapest could handover authority engineering documents already in March 2007.

We are very happy that the documentation got authority approval at the first attempt. The plant will be commissioned in autumn 2007 as scheduled.

After successful commissioning AGRANA will consider to use this process at other locations within AGRANA Südzucker. Thus, Pörner can hopefully anticipate subsequent orders.
