EDL in Leipzig hosts top talk on foreign trade activities in Saxony

Saxony’s Minister of Economic Affairs discusses the implementation of the Supply Chain Act with business representatives of the Free State of Saxony and the BAFA President and gives the starting signal for the Foreign Trade Tour of Saxony starting on April 25, 2023.

State Minister M. Dulig, EDL CEO Dr. M. Haid and EDL Sales Manager P. Sonntag (f.r.t.l.)

Martin Dulig, Saxony‘s State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport, met the Presidents of the Saxon Chambers of Industry and Commerce and the Chambers of Trade, VDMA East and the Saxony Trade & Investment Corporation (Wirtschaftsförderung Sachsen GmbH) at EDL Anlagenbau Gesellschaft mbH (EDL) in Leipzig last Friday. Questions regarding the implementation of the Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains by small and medium-size enterprises (SME) were discussed with the President of the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (Bundesamt für Wirtschaft und Ausfuhrkontrolle (BAFA)), Torsten Safarik. The aim here is “to implement the law efficiently and with little bureaucracy …“, and „to offer companies a wide range of information on practical implementation issues“, emphasized the BAFA President.

The export business is of great importance for the Saxon economy since the Free State’s economic success is also based on internationalization. About one third of the economic output of the Free State is provided by the export business. Exports secure existing jobs, create new ones and promote innovations. Opening-up new sales and procurement markets is often a challenge, in particular for SME. Here, the Free State of Saxony and its partners of the Foreign Trade Initiative Saxony (Außenwirtschaftsinitiative Sachsen (AWIS)) provide help and support in form of targeted offers, such as entrepreneurial trips, participation in trade fairs, but also specialist events and consultation days.

Dr. Michael Haid, CEO of EDL, underlined that delegation trips with political support "are a great opportunity for companies" and contribute to further international networking. At the same time, he highlighted the importance of international cooperation for his company. The HyKero project for the industrial production of 50,000 tons per year of sustainable jet fuel (eSAF) is a lighthouse project for Saxony and Germany. However, global issues can only be solved globally. The project therefore serves as a basis for further plants of this type. EDL recently signed letters of intent with partners in Brazil for two industrial plants, each with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons. Now, appropriate action is required at all levels.

The Foreign Trade Tour of Saxony, starting on April 25, 2023, will take you to Leipzig, Chemnitz and Dresden. It offers Saxon companies a platform for discussion and the exchange of information on all aspects of international business.
